⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I was lucky enough to get coaching for drama school by Lucy. Lucy was very professional through her approach to teaching. I needed help with finding and preparing monologues, audition preparation and applying to drama schools & universities.

Lucy Supported me through the whole process, Which was extremely helpful, not just the one to one coaching but being there if I needed help or I was nervous. She also taught me where to find good plays, breaking down your speech, characterisation and helped me with voice, example pitch, speed tone etc. This helped me a lot with choosing what best school suits me. In terms of training, location & what I want out of it.

My offers;

The 1 year actor training course at the fourth monkey theatre company.

The acting for film 1 year course at New York film academy,

The 1 year foundation degree training at Birmingham school of Acting BSA

Firstly, I think Lucy’s an amazing teacher and has really helped me as a performer and as an individual. For one of my important auditions two monologues were required from me;  Contemporary and Shakespeare, in which case Lucy helped me a lot with both of them. Lucy helped me with my pronunciations, breathing techniques, pace of my speeches and characterisation. I liked the way Lucy was honest with me and gave me very helpful tips and exercises. For example, after a few tries in delivering my Shakespeare monologue Lucy asked me to run up and down the classroom to help me to deliver the lines better and with more characterisation.  Also, for both monologues Lucy told me to look into more of the small details. Such as, who I am playing, why? Where? How? Going through these made my understanding in both speeches better.

Lucy was my acting teacher for 18 months in the lead up to my drama school auditions. Throughout this time she coached me through many recognised techniques and practices, supporting me to develop both my performance skill and my confidence. Lucy’s practice developed my vocal technique hugely including improving my diction and articulation, and bringing my awareness to how I can use my voice to enhance my character portrayal. Through this vocal training I was also able to work on my projection and stage presence, which has helped me become a more well rounded performer. She helped me identify my best suited roles, including playing age/ genre & style. This was really useful when it came to selecting monologues for auditions and making decisions about characters that best suited my performance style. Lucy worked closely with me in developing my acting technique, specifically naturalism using exercises from Stanislavski, she encouraged me to consider the thoughts, feelings and emotions of characters; something that has strengthened my technique. Lucy would support my progress with individual specific feedback, and would coach me in applying this to continue to develop my skills. She is a knowledgeable acting coach with a warm approach that builds excellent acting skills and while encouraging performers to grow in confidence.

Being taught by Lucy was not only fun and enthusiastic, but it was also inspirational and challenging! Having a teacher who listens to their students and wants to see their students grow, in my opinion, is some of the key signs of a great teacher. Lucy saw what I couldn’t see in myself and worked with me, encouraged me, pushed me and supported me in every lesson we had! Whether we were playing creative games, reading scripts, or improving, Lucy would always encourage us to put our all into everything we do. Lucy’s style of teaching would encourage her students to think outside of the box: not just giving them a script to read, but allowing them to make their own creative choices, and see whether their ideas would make sense. Before our lessons, I would hardly research my character. However, when Lucy suggested that I do some investigation into my role. And after studying, I found that I was able to relate to my role a lot more because I took time out to understand my character. I have definitely held on to a lot of Lucy’s teaching, and I’m hoping to use these techniques in the future - giving other young people the great experience I had.

Acting is something I am very passionate about and I believe that acting lessons with Lucy were very beneficial for me as a training actor. Lucy’s style and approach to acting was clear and really helped. My favourite thing was the meditation we did before doing sessions that helped to calm nerves. We laid on our backs and Lucy spoke to us through the process. I still do this if I have an audition or a performance as it really helps me engage and calms any nerves I may have. I really enjoyed reading a play Lucy had written and when given the chance I liked exploring plays, getting into groups and performing. Lucy gave me 1 to 1 support  when we were doing monologues and gave me Constructive Criticism when I needed it To improve. Overall I really enjoyed lessons with Lucy and I found them very useful.

Lucy 's lessons have been so helpful to me. I have greatly improved my technical and instinctive acting skills. Lucy always encourages me to try different kinds of approaches to any script, meaning I can always find the best way to act any given scene. We explore different types of scripts and characters,  which has broadened my experience and abilities. I am always encouraged to think in depth about every aspect of a character / situation and I can now apply these skills to any drama task given to me in school and external clubs. Lucy’s lessons have also been so pivotal in improving my confidence, which I was struggling with at the time when I started my lessons. I always look forward to our lessons and have had very positive results at school and in my daily life because of her expert teaching so I would definitely recommend her lessons to anyone!

Lucy  has been a transformative figure within my acting career. At fifteen I was determined to go to drama school post sixteen, and Lucy just happened to pop up on a feed my Mum was looking at one day. I consider myself extremely lucky that my Mum happened to click on that page. Not only did I succeed in getting into drama school at sixteen, leaving with a distinction, my education has been furthered as I am now at university studying Actor-Musicianship, getting in first time and currently in my second year.

Lucy taught using a wide range of different material, from Nt connection monologues and plays to Shakespeare, always coming with a few different options of each for me to try out. Freedom is pretty rare in the acting world for teenagers. It seems there’s a pretty regimented set of check boxes to see if we’re ‘good enough’. Lucy is not like that. She puts you first no matter who you are. It made me feel like a professional early on, but for the first time ever not in a daunting way, in a positive and open way.

Using this wide range of material, as well as keeping the room a safe, honest, and brave space, I was guided into discovering my own versatility through her teachings. I always loved that I had freedom. I could sit with the text for as long as I needed to, and was given the space to approach it in my own way before being given direction. Lucy is kind but firm, and not only teaches you fundamentals of many different types of theatre, but also the fundamentals of audition approaches, application processes, and grounding techniques. Her direction was always clear. It never felt like a trial or a test, but more so two people in a room, one teaching the other something, simply playing around and seeing if they could make some theatre magic together.

I could not talk about my time with Lucy without mentioning how open of a character she is. I had my own troubles at the age of fifteen, as we all do, and Lucy not only made me a more comfortable actor, but a more comfortable person. She helped me to truly believe in myself and focus on honing my craft. It is pretty easy to be an open human, but a lot harder to be an open teacher alongside it. If I ever win something, Lucy will be on that list of people I thank, and damn near the top of it too. Even five years on, Lucy  is always only one call away.
